The Bridge On Main Street, It Will Be History; Final Episode

My, oh my am I late with this editorial! Sometimes life gets in the way of fun! I had to work and was unable to attend ‘opening ceremony’ of the bridge on Tuesday September 1, 2009. Yes, over a month ago, please forgive me!

The ceremony began with the acknowledgments of the contributors for funding, building and the current seated public officials being memorialized on a plaque at the bridge. A ribbon cutting officially opened the bridge.

The Ravenna Athletic Boosters Club, earlier held a raffle for the ‘first person to officially cross the new bridge’. Ted Styburski won this honor and with a friend Gloria DeJonge, her granddaughter Chandler Falkowski and Chandler’s cousin Kenzie Friss, received a ride across the bridge in high style in a horse-drawn carriage driven by Joe Young and ‘Lady’ in the lead.

The bridge project at 1.3 million dollars was funded at 95% coming from government grant - Michigan Department of Transportation and 5% from the Village of Ravenna.

Future plans include lighting under the bridge and lamp posts along the road of the bridge. Grant money would not cover these highlights.
