Charles E. Stauffer was born in Ottawa County, Michigan June18, 1866 to Samuel Stauffer and Roxanne Wells. He grew up in Chester Township in Ottawa County Michigan, along with siblings Esther, Frank and Mabel per the 1880 census.

Charles married Blanche Averill age 21 of Chester Twp., daughter of Horace Averill & Electra Harrison on April 5, 1892 in Chester Township, Ottawa County Michigan. Charles was living at the time of marriage in Walker, Kent Co. Michigan and was a farmer. On the 1900 census for Chester Twp, Charles is a farmer living with wife Blanche and owns a mortgaged home & farm. Charles and Blanche later moved to Ravenna Michigan and Charles served as the Justice of the Peace. Charles drowned in the flooded waters of Crockery Creek in Ravenna on June 6, 1905 at 1:40 in the afternoon.

Note: Muskegon Chronicle newspaper states Carl A. Stauffer is Charles’ brother. I believe they are actually cousins as Carl A. Stauffer is the son of George Stauffer and Jennie Wells.
